Plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer´s disease
Alzheimer´s disease markers

Plasma Biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease
RayBio Cytokine Antibody Arrays have been featured in hundreds of publications, but none have generated as much interest in our products as a publication in Nature Medicine on plasma biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease. Ray, et al. Nature Med. 2007;13(11):1359-1362.
Tony Wyss-Coray, a professor at Stanford, and Satoris, Inc., the company he founded used our Human Cytokine Array C Series 1000 to screen for 120 different proteins in the plasma of patients with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and compared the results with normal controls. They identified a panel of 18 proteins differentially expressed in Alzheimer's patients, which could discriminate those with the disease with 80-90% accuracy.
PARC/CCL18 as a Marker of Asthma in Sputum
Sometimes it's hard to collect samples for biomarker analysis. Spinal taps and tissue biopsies have never been popular with patients. But what if you could get confirmatory evidence of disease from sputum?
That's what a group led by Hirahito Kita at Mayo Clinic did. Kim, et al. Chest. 2009;135: 295-302.
Using a Custom Antibody Array that was based on our Human Cytokine Array 5, they probed for 79 different cytokines in the sputum of asthma patients, identifying PARC/CCL18 as being differentially elevated in the sputum of asthma patients. This increase correlated with increased eosinophil percentages and eosinophil-derived neurotoxin in sputum.
Correlation of Asthma Symptoms to Cytokine Expression in Human Breath Condensates
One of the hallmarks of a good biomarker is whether or not it correlates with patient symptoms or other measures of the presense and severity of the disease. This is exactly what a research group at the Wakayama Medical University in Japan was able to do using one of our antibody arrays. Matsunaga, et al. J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2006;118: 84-90.
Using our Human Inflammation Array 3 (AAH-INF-3) to measure differences in inflammatory markers in the exhaled breath condensates of asthma patients, they correlated these results with classsic airway physiologic tests for asthma severity.
Not only was there a correlation of symptoms with some inflammatory markers, they found a linear relationship where the severity of the symptoms correlated with the relative expression levels of several cytokines, including TNF-alpha and TGF-beta.
Biomarker Validation with Quantibody
No other quantitative platform gives you the flexibility for antibody-based detection of proteins that is offered by our Quantibody Arrays, the largest multiplex ELISA available. We offer more choices for detecting target proteins than anyone else. And each Quantibody slide will test 10 samples along side a 6 point calibration curve.
