New mycoplasma detection kit
The new PCR kit Venor®GeM Advance is highly sensitive to the detection of mycoplasma and acholeplasma contaminations in cell cultures and other biological materials. Venor®GeM Advance is a ready-to-go version of Venor®GeM.
Mycoplasma contamination will interfere with cell-proliferation through both nutrient competition and toxic waste. Venor®GeM employs PCR technology for rapid and reliable detection of mycoplasma in various in situ biologicals including cell cultures and virus stocks. It is a validated test according to Eur. Ph. Venor®GeM utilizes the polymerase chain reaction, which is established as the method of choice for highest sensitivity in the detection of mycoplasma and acholeplasma contamination in cell cultures and other cell culture derived biologicals. The primer set is specific to the highly conserved 16S rRNA coding region in the mycoplasma genome. This allows for detection of all mycoplasma species usually encountered as contaminants in cell cultures.
Venor®GeM Advance is a ready-to-go version of Venor®GeM. The reaction tubes included with the kit are pre-coated with appropriate dNTPs and primers to reduce the total assay time compared to the general protocol that requires individual loading of reaction tubes. For additional convenience the gel loading buffer and dye are already included in the reaction tubes. After thermal cycling the PCR can be loaded directly on the agarose gel.
Another product, Zell Shield™, protects cell cultures from a broad range of common contaminants. The extremely powerful combination of innovative antibiotics is blocking the bacterial DNA synthesis, the protein biosynthesis or shows macrolidic properties. These bactericidal features allow the permanent removal of the contaminants from the culture. The use of old fashioned antibiotics like penicillin/streptomycin, nystatin or amphotericin B is not longer required! The easy applicable 100x aqueous solution is sterile filtrated and ready-to-go. Also for this product Biochrom AG is offering a 50 % discount on the list price until the end of the year, 2009.
